Get ready for the Great North Run

The countdown is on for the annual Great North Run city to sea half marathon, which will take place on 10 September 2023! Training is likely to be well underway and to help you along the way, we have rounded up the essentials you’ll need from your favourite Eldon Square brands.

Sportswear

Whether you’re a running novice or an expert long distance runner, it’s essential you’re kitted out in the best possible performance wear. H&M exclusive in-store active wear area is full of men’s and women’s sportswear, including stretch leggings, lightweight training tops and protective gilets for the unpredictable English weather.

Trainers

A good pair of running trainers are the most essential staple in your running wardrobe. Make sure the trainers are comfortable, don’t rub and have been worn plenty of times before the big run. Skechers, Foot Locker, OFFICE and Schuh all have a huge selection of running trainers to choose from, whether you want trainers with extra cushioning support, ones with breathable fabric to give your feet some air, or bright, bold trainers that will stand out amongst the crowd.

Headphones

The best way to motivate yourself through those long runs is a feel-good playlist. Pick up a pair of wireless Beats Studio Buds from John Lewis & Partners.

Water Bottle

Remember with long-distance running, the key is to always stay hydrated – before, during and after your run. Drinking regularly will keep your body on top form and replenish your hydration levels that will be lost when you sweat.

Typo and Lakeland have a huge selection of water bottles in different sizes, materials and designs with useful handles so you can take it on the run with you easily without affecting your running style.

Fitness Tracker

Although not an essential training accessory, a sports watch is a useful addition to track your runs and see how you’re improving. The watches can accurately track total running time, distance, pace and lap time, making it easy for you to save and compare runs. Some have even more advanced features like stride length and estimated recovery time needed after a run.

Post-run soak

Along with all the accessories you need on the run-up to the big day, you also need to prepare for recovery afterwards. Relax your muscles and treat yourself to a much-deserved soak with Molton Brown soothing and relaxing bath products, including Orange & Bergamot Shower Gel, Body Polisher and Body Lotion.

Remember we’re open ’til 8pm on Thursdays giving you even more time to grab the running essentials you need!
