Travelling via the Tyne Bridge

The Tyne Bridge is undergoing restoration work from 2 April 2024, during which it will be reduced to two lanes—one northbound and one southbound. As the bridge capacity is reduced, drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow more time for their journey.

To minimise congestion, it’s recommended to travel via public transport, walk or cycle, where possible. Secure cycle storage is available at Eldon Garden Multi-Storey Car Park.

For more information on how to plan your journey, visit the Tyne Bridge website here.

Please note, Newcastle and Gateshead Clean Air Zone signs and cameras are now in operation throughout the city centre.

Charges only apply to buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and light goods vehicles that do not meet national CAZ emissions requirements. For more information visit the Newcastle City Council website here.

Eldon Garden Car Park is accessible via the Eldon Garden entrance adjacent to Eldon Square and Percy Street and has 445 car parking spaces, including disabled parking spots.
