Calling all Lego® enthusiasts. Join us on Tuesday 21 February for our LEGO® workshop in partnership with Brick This and Newcastle Hospitals Charity.
Build a LEGO® heart with our special guest Steve Mayes, the renowned local LEGO® Architect from Brick This and learn about the incredible gift of organ donation and the pioneering work of the Freeman Hospital, supported by Newcastle Hospitals Charity.
The free workshops will be located in the upper Grey’s Quarter opposite Cha time and run from 11am –1pm and 2pm – 4pm. Twenty-Five unique LEGO® hearts will be up for grabs for customers to build and take home during each session and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Along with the LEGO® hearts, children will also be able to participate in creative LEGO® play with the help of Steve from Brick This.
Workshops:
The workshops are suitable for children 5 years plus. Donations will be welcome on the day to Newcastle Hospitals Charity to help them support even more projects at the hospitals, including the cutting-edge work of the transplantation teams at the Freeman Hospital.
Additionally, a LEGO® heart installation built by Steve from Brick This has been commissioned by Newcastle Hospitals Charity and will be displayed in the centre from Tuesday 14 February to highlight Organ Donor Awareness Day and to celebrate the work of The Institute of Transplantation, based in the heart of Newcastle. The LEGO® artwork will be located in St Andrew’s Way near to the customer service desk until Tuesday 21 February, before it reaches its permanent home at the Freeman Hospital.
Newcastle Hospitals Charity supports innovative initiatives within the transplantation service, including funding a heart transplant simulator to train surgeons to perform life-saving heart transplants in accurate conditions.
Newcastle Hospital Charity is the official charity for Newcastle Hospitals. It proudly supports staff, patients and the wider community of the hospitals, and funds a range of initiatives – from cutting-edge cancer research to innovative medical equipment and ward refurbishments.
