Queer Creative Pop – HMV
Tyne and Queer Collective partners with HMV in New Pop-Up Event in Newcastle.
The local arts organisation, Tyne and Queer Collective will be holding a pop-up arts event at HMV Newcastle in Eldon Square this February to bring together local creatives.
With a focus on showcasing the talents of queer and disabled individuals, Tyne and Queer Collective is committed to building safe spaces for queer artists in the North East. On the back of the initial event, Beck Carol, the curator of Tyne and Queer Collective, has been establishing new connections with well-known music and arts venues in the region.
When asked about the HMV event, Beck said, “As an autistic non-binary person, I’m dedicated to ensuring that queer people have more spaces in Newcastle. I’m keenly aware of the obstacles faced by queer and disabled creatives, so creating events which will encourage these individuals to get involved is so important to me.
“HMV Newcastle has been a staple of Newcastle’s creative scene for years, and its placement in the heart of the city centre means that Tyne and Queer collective can create a high-profile event to showcase the abilities of our featured artists and vendors.”
Tyne and Queer held their first event in January, featuring vendors working with textiles, photography, illustration, and jewellery. However, there are plans for music events to take place across Newcastle at the beginning of February, with the hope of broadening the scope of Tyne and Queer Collective with each event.
“We are carrying out arts and music events across Newcastle, but our event at Newcastle means we can move our collective to the next level. The venue means we can bring together a much larger variety of artists and cast a much brighter light on our community.”
