Meet Eldon Square’s Chief Food Matchmaker

Meet Sadia Atkinson, Eldon Square’s very first Chief Food Matchmaker. Aged 10 and already a self-confessed foodie, Sadia has taken on the important task of helping families find the perfect place to eat across Eldon Square this summer.

As part of her new role, Sadia explored Grey’s Quarter, met the people behind some of its much-loved restaurants, stepped behind the scenes with the chefs and, most importantly, sampled plenty of delicious dishes along the way. Now, she’s sharing her top tips, favourite finds and golden rules for the perfect family meal at Eldon Square.

How did you feel when you found out you were appointed Eldon Square’s very first Chief Food Matchmaker?

I was SO excited! I love trying new food, so getting to be Chief Food Matchmaker felt like the perfect match. I couldn’t wait to visit all the restaurants and try everything that Eldon Square has to offer.

What was the most exciting part of your foodie adventure around Grey’s Quarter in Eldon Square?

My favourite part was getting to visit all the different restaurants because there were so many different options, and so many flavours to choose from, and everything smelled tasted AMAZING. It felt like going on a big food adventure! Meeting all the chefs and waiters who worked there was really fun too, because everyone was so friendly.

Which Eldon Square restaurant would you recommend for a family day out, and why?

Probably The Bake! I think it’s really nice when a restaurant has lots of choices, so nobody has to worry if they’re fussy (like my little sister!). I also like restaurants where everyone can sit together because you get to spend time together and make happy memories, and The Bake is perfect for that!

What was the most delicious dish you tasted during your mission?

My favourite food is Pizza so definitely Bella Italia. I even tried some things I’d never eaten before at Umai Mi, and they were delicious. That’s why I think it’s always fun to be brave and try something new because you might find a new favourite!

What’s your secret for helping families choose where to eat at Eldon Square?

My secret is to find the places where happy faces and tasty food come together! I think the best places are the ones where you don’t have to choose between yummy food and having fun – you get both. If everyone is excited to order and enjoys their meal, then you know you’ve found a great restaurant.

What was it like stepping behind the scenes and meeting the chefs at Eldon Square’s restaurants?

It was so cool! I’d never really seen what happens in a restaurant kitchen before. The chefs were really busy, but they were also really kind and told me about the food they were making. It was amazing watching them cook because they made it look so easy, even though I know it’s really hard. It made me realise how much work goes into making every meal. I think they’re a bit like food superheroes!

As Chief Food Matchmaker, what’s your golden rule for finding the perfect family meal?

My golden rule is “A happy tummy means a happy family!” I think it’s really fun when everyone gets excited about what they’re ordering, and it’s also nice to share different things so everyone can have a little taste. The best family meals are the ones where you’re talking, laughing, and don’t want the meal to end because you’re having such a nice time. That’s when you know you’ve found the perfect place!
