Dragon during Chinese new year at eldon square

Join us for a spectacular celebration of Chinese culture and tradition in Eldon Square on Saturday, 21 February, as we mark the Year of the Horse, a year that encourages optimism, hard work and bold spirit.

Experience an exciting lion and dragon dance performance that will weave its way through the centre. It’s going to be a fun and vibrant experience right here in Newcastle – you won’t want to miss!

Date & Time:

Saturday 21 February, 1pm

Location:

The performance will start from the Monument Street entrance, making its way past Grey’s Quarter restaurants, towards St Andrew’s Way (outside of Hollister and New Look), and then parade back, stopping and ending at Umai Mi.

What to expect:

Mark your calendars and visit Eldon Square on 21 February for an incredible performance by Edmund NG’s Choi Lee Fut Kung Fu Lion and Dragon Club.

The Lion Dance is a tradition performed at Chinese New Year celebrations worldwide. Known for its lively movements, vibrant costumes, and rhythmic drumbeats, the dance symbolises blessings, prosperity, and good luck for businesses and communities.

Adding to the festivities, the Gods of Wealth will also be making a special appearance to spread good fortune!

Keep an eye out for the special moment when the lion “eats” lettuce and “spits” it out – catching the lettuce is considered a sign of health and wealth in the coming year – could it be you?

Fancy a bite to eat before or after the performance? Why not check out our range of restaurants here.
