How does it work?
Participating stores across Eldon Square are now offering free period essentials, no questions asked. Shoppers simply need to ask for a ‘Package for Ethel’ at the till, and they’ll receive a white envelope, embossed with an Eldon Square logo, containing menstrual products. This gesture aims to provide immediate support with dignity and care, without requiring any explanation or proof of need.
Funded by Eldon Square, participating retailers include:
- New Look
- The Body Shop
- Lush
- Hollister
- River Island
- Bravissimo
- Claire’s
- MINISO
- Sephora
- Boots
- Eldon Square’s own customer service team – desk located outside of Fenwick
Each dedicated retailer is committed to offering packages for anyone who needs them, in a safe, discreet, and respectful way.
The importance of this campaign is highlighted by recent data showing that 1 in 10 girls in the UK cannot afford menstrual products, while 12% have had to improvise due to cost barriers. Eldon Square and Bright Futures are determined to help change this reality for the better. The stark reality of this data is something that Eldon Square and Bright Futures are keen to combat.
Donate to Bright Futures
As part of this city-wide effort, customers are also now able to donate menstrual products at Eldon Square’s Customer Service Desk, located opposite Fenwick. All contributions will go directly to Bright Futures, a charity based in South Shields that supports over 5,000 young women every year. Through two dedicated community hubs, Bright Futures delivers a wide range of services aimed at improving wellbeing, education, and empowerment for women and girls.
