With the weather heating up and Summer steadily making its way closer eating outdoors is looking more and more inviting. A number of our Eldon Square bars and restaurants have gorgeous outdoor areas for you to enjoy a bite to eat or a thirst-quenching drink, al fresco. Read on to find out where you can enjoy some outdoor dining in Newcastle at Eldon Square.


The benches are back, but outdoors! Wagamama will be opening their outdoor space for dining so you can finally get your Katsu Curry fix! They will also be launching a new vegan menu for you to enjoy which includes some delicious new dishes to try including sticky vegan ribs and vegan chilli ‘squid’.

No pre-booking is required meaning you can simply turn up, grab a bench and enjoy!

Chaophraya’s roof-top terrace – Grey’s Quarter

With one of the best views of the city from their outdoor roof terrace, there’s nowhere better to experience the Thai cuisine than Chaophraya. Enjoy the national dish of Thailand with a vibrant Pad Thai, or try out a hand-crafted, authentic Thai cocktail that will have you dreaming of those summer holiday getaways.

Chaophraya is encouraging guests to book in advance as their stunning outdoor area is in high demand.

Fenwick – Roof Thirty Nine

Fenwick have taken alfresco dining to a whole new level this summer with their fabulous new rooftop bar and restaurant, Roof Thirty Nine, situated in the heart of the city. Grab a bite to eat from their delicious seasonal charcoal-fired menu or sip a bespoke cocktail in the British sunshine.

There is no need to book, walk ins are welcome! All you need to do is visit Roof Thirty Nine, speak to a member of staff and they will call you back when your table is ready!

The Alchemist – Nelson Street

The Alchemist will also be opening up its outdoor area serving its classic signature cocktails and drinks. Although they are currently not offering an outdoor food menu, their unique and exciting cocktails make up for it. Sip on a Screwball in the Spring sunshine or create a magic show in a glass with their smoking Mad Hatter sharing drink.

The Alchemist is available for walk-ins only so, there’s no excuse not to pop in and grab a post-shopping trip refuel.

Nando’s – Old Eldon Square

Everyone’s go-to favourite is back with a bang! Whether you like yours extra hot, or you’re more of a lemon and herb type, enjoy it al fresco with Nando’s outdoor dining in Newcastle at Eldon Square!

With no need to book just turn up and you could be enjoying your peri-peri favourite within minutes!

If you prefer to avoid the risk of bad weather, why not eat indoors instead at one of our centre restaurants including Umai Mi and Chiquito.

Latest centre information

Following the latest Government update, from Tuesday 30 November, anyone visiting the centre, whether that is to work or shop, must wear a face covering when entering and walking around the malls, unless you are medically exempt or under the age of 11.

Throughout the pandemic, we continue to do everything we can to make sure the centre is a safe place to visit and work.
