Saturday 13 June – Rainbow Headdresses
Step into a world of colour and creativity as you craft your very own rainbow-inspired floral headpiece. Using vibrant crepe paper and decorative materials, participants will create beautiful handmade flowers to build a unique crown or headband bursting with Pride spirit. Inspired by legendary LGBTQIA+ activist Marsha P. Johnson, this joyful workshop celebrates individuality, self-expression and the power of being unapologetically yourself. Whether you go bold and bright or soft and colourful, your finished headdress will be a wearable celebration of Pride.
Sunday 14 June – Paper Wig Making
Unleash your imagination and explore the fabulous world of drag, costume and performance art in this playful and creative workshop. Using paper, stencils, textures and colourful designs, visitors can craft their own eye-catching paper wig inspired by iconic LGBTQIA+ performers and artists. From dramatic shapes to vibrant patterns, this activity is all about creativity, confidence and having fun while expressing your unique style. Once complete, participants can wear their creations proudly and strike a pose.
Saturday 27 June – Rainbow Headdresses
Back by popular demand, our Rainbow Headdresses workshop returns for another colourful day of creativity and celebration. Join us to design and make your own floral Pride-inspired headpiece using a rainbow of crepe paper flowers and decorative touches. Inspired by themes of joy, community and self-expression, this relaxed and welcoming workshop is perfect for all ages and offers another opportunity to create something truly unique to wear with Pride.
Sunday 28 June – Banner Making
Share your message, celebrate your identity and make your voice seen through the art of banner making. In this inspiring workshop, visitors can create a personalised square banner using colourful materials, lettering and creative embellishments. Whether your banner celebrates your family, expresses your Pride, supports inclusivity or shares hopes for a brighter future, this session encourages positivity, creativity and connection. Inspired by LGBTQIA+ communities and allies, it’s a chance to create something meaningful while celebrating love, acceptance and unity.
Saturday 11 July – Proud People
Celebrate the people who make your world brighter in this imaginative and uplifting craft workshop. Using paper person templates, colourful papers and a variety of creative materials, participants can design and decorate characters inspired by themselves, friends, family members or role models. Whether bold, colourful, quirky or completely unique, every creation is a celebration of individuality, identity and community. This feel-good activity encourages self-expression while highlighting the beauty of diversity and belonging.
Sunday 12 July – Zine Making
Get creative with collage, storytelling and self-expression in our hands-on zine making workshop. Using recycled materials, magazines, paper cut-outs, drawings and words, visitors can create their very own mini magazine dedicated to something they love, something that inspires them or simply what makes them happy. From music and fashion to friendship, identity and creativity, there are no rules — just imagination. This relaxed and expressive session celebrates individuality and provides a fun way to tell your story through art and design.
Curious Arts is an LGBTQIA+ arts, youth and heritage charity committed to championing LGBTQIA+ creativity and communities across the North East and beyond. Through ambitious and accessible projects, the charity works to increase visibility, representation and understanding of LGBTQIA+ culture and lived experiences.

Pride is a celebration of community, visibility, acceptance and love, and we’re delighted to welcome visitors to take part in these inspiring workshops throughout the summer.
Newcastle Pride takes place from 25–26 July 2026 across the city, bringing together communities for a weekend of celebration, performances, activism and inclusivity. Eldon Square is delighted to be a proud ally of this year’s festival and looks forward to celebrating alongside our visitors, partners and the wider Newcastle community.
