Freight Island is now open!

Newcastle has welcomed its newest neighbourhood this summer, as Freight Island Newcastle officially opens and booking is now live.

Perched on the rooftop of Eldon Square, the 60,000 sq ft destination brings together food, drink, and music in one expansive, all-day space designed to move seamlessly from laid-back afternoons to late-night energy.

At the heart of Freight Island Newcastle is a weekly rhythm built around the city’s music scene. Thursday’s Playing Out is dedicated to emerging North East artists, including Lizzie Esau, Charlie Floyd, Smith & Liddle, Park View, Central Arcade and more. Fridays’ Rhythm Tonic shift the tempo, with DJ collective takeovers led by music curator Paul Stewart.

Saturdays’ Drink, Dance, Disco at Freight Island Newcastle is built around major headline DJ sets, pairing world-class talents with local support acts – positioning the venue as a new destination for music and nightlife in the city. Sundays round things off with female-led collective Sundaze soundtracking a slower close to the weekend for a more relaxed offering.

Freight Island Newcastle will host a World Cup Social from June 12th to July 19th, transforming the venue into one of the city’s standout places to watch the tournament. Matches will be screened across 10 large HD screens positioned throughout the space, including beneath the vast retractable roof of The Plant Room. Beyond screenings, the World Cup social will welcome appearances from special guests, including Newcastle football legends and live music to support the atmosphere across the tournament.

Designed to offer more than a traditional fan zone, the World Cup Social will have a range of flexible ticket options. Guests can opt for free general admission or book tables and food and drink packages to make a day of it, with spaces suited to groups, including a dedicated family-friendly area to ensure it’s accessible for all.

Free general admission and premium seated tickets from £10 per person, available to book now at www.freightislandnewcastle.com/world-cup.

Food and drink sit at the centre of the Freight Island experience, with 12 independent kitchens and three bars spread across the venue. The line-up brings together well-known Newcastle favourites, including I Scream for Pizza, Meat:Stack, Miso and FAB Bakery, alongside celebrated Northern independents serving everything from Asian fusion and Greek live-fire cooking to Caribbean dishes, pies and desserts. A wide-ranging drinks offer will include Two by Two Brewing, cocktails and a sustainability-led wine programme, creating an all-day food and drink destination designed for everything from casual drop-ins to big group occasions.

The opening hours are: Thursday from 12pm until 11pm, Friday from 12pm until 1am, Saturday from 12pm until 1am, and Sunday from 12pm until 11pm.

Freight Island Newcastle is shaping up to be one of the city’s defining new destinations – a place to eat, drink, discover new music and come together this summer.
