One Great Day at Eldon Square

Join us for fun, games and crafts on Saturday 2 September, 11am – 5pm in support of Newcastle Hospital Charity and Great Ormond Street Hospital as part of our One Great Day event.

One Great Day is an opportunity to raise money for charity and have a great day doing it. 100% of the funds raised across the weekend will support Newcastle Hospital Charity and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Eldon Square has supported One Great Day for three years, raising thousands of pounds for wonderful charities in the North East and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Activities:

Get ready for a day full of fun with activities including:

  • Roll and Bowl Derby: How does the Roll and Bowl Derby work? Each player selects their favourite horse, takes their stand, and waits for the race to begin. At the starter’s order, you’ll roll and bowl your ball down the course, trying to pot your balls into the various holes to propel your horse forward. The more points you score by landing your ball in the holes, the faster your horse will gallop towards victory. Win a prize every time.
  • Racing Cars Simulator: Take on the competition on our racing car; it’s not all about winning, but taking part that counts! Win a prize every time.

All games are located in Chevy Chase (outside of John Lewis & Partners and Boots).

Crafts:

Get crafty with your little ones this summer by visiting the Newcastle Hospital Charity stand in St Andrew’s Way (outside of New Look) for a face painting makeover! Choose your favourite look from tigers, unicorns or rainbows; we will make your face sparkle. Or get crafty with our little monster colouring-in and try your luck with our step-up challenge.

Don’t forget to cheer the Newcastle Hospital Charity on as they cycle 75 miles on an exercise bike to celebrate 75 years of the NHS.

We also have our friends Batman and Elsa roaming the malls, so don’t forget to get a selfie when you see them.

We look forward to welcoming you for a day full of fun, laughter and cheer while raising money for two fantastic charities.

Charities we are supporting:

Great Ormond Street Hospital is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare. The charity helps the sickest children with complex health needs to fulfil their potential.

Newcastle Hospitals Charity supports innovative initiatives within the transplantation service, including funding a heart transplant simulator to train surgeons to perform life-saving heart transplants in accurate conditions.

Newcastle Hospital Charity is the official charity for Newcastle Hospitals. It proudly supports staff, patients and the wider community of the hospitals, and funds a range of initiatives – from cutting-edge cancer research to innovative medical equipment and ward refurbishments.

Occasionally events may need to be changed or cancelled without notice, but we’ll always try to keep you informed.

Coronation of the Nation

Join us in celebrating the Coronation of their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, as we commemorate this moment in history with family-friendly crafts on Saturday 6 May from 12pm to 5pm located in Grey’s Quarter.

The Coronation of the Nation Craftalong

Show off your creative skills in the royal arts and crafts fun by helping to create our giant collage for King Charles III and make your very own crown fit for a King or Queen to take home, all for a donation to local Age UK charities. Don’t forget to snap your selfie on our throne, tag @Eldonsq on social media and use the #eldonsquare hashtag.

Age UK North Tyneside and Northumberland will also visit our event to offer information on their volunteering opportunities and shoppers can enjoy a cuppa while speaking to the team.

The Big Help Out

To mark King Charles III Coronation, many charities are coming together to encourage the nation to support their local community. We believe that sharing time with others can have a positive impact on volunteers and clients alike.

We’re teaming up with Age UK Tyneside and Northumberland to raise awareness of their volunteering opportunities. There are many ways to get involved and make a difference with your local Age UK charity. Visit both charities at Eldon Square during the following times:

  • North Tyneside: 12.00pm – 2.15pm
  • Northumberland: 2.15pm – 4.30pm

Christmas Crafts in Association with Age UK

We’ve teamed up with local charities Age UK Gateshead, North Tyneside and Northumberland from 2 to 18 December 2022 to share our space and provide Christmas craft activities for all of the family.

Immerse yourself in the magic of Christmas by decorating Christmas cards, wooden baubles and your own reindeer food to make sure Santa stops at your house. Shoppers can also share a natter with the Age UK team and hear all about their wonderful volunteering opportunities and how to get involved.

Our community space will be open daily from 11am to 4pm in St Andrew’s Way opposite MONKI. Why not stop by for a day of shopping to participate in one of our craft activities, including colouring in one of our Christmas cards?  All decorated cards can then be posted in our postbox, which will then be donated to clients of Age UK Gateshead, Northumberland and North Tyneside.
