Every Poppy Counts
The Poppy Appeal
This year marks 100 years of the Royal British Legion and the return of the Poppy Appeal collectors at the centre. The Poppy Appeal, and in particular their collectors, have a special place in the heart of the community.
In Centre Activity
This year’s Poppy Appeal stand will be located in St Andrew’s Way (near Monki) on Friday 5, Saturday 6, Sunday 7, Friday 12 and Saturday 13 from 10am – 4pm.
You can also purchase a Poppy from our Customer Service desk within St Andrew’s Way or outside Fenwick.
The Royal British Legion
Last year the charity faced some of the most challenging times in its history, forcing them to cancel face-to-face collections in England and Wales for the first time and preventing many Remembrance events from going ahead.
Whilst the charity undoubtedly had to change and adapt – calling on the public to support the Poppy Appeal like never before – the legacy of the Covid-19 pandemic means the 2021 Poppy Appeal will be just as important as 2020, if not even more so.
The money raised during Poppy Appeal provides invaluable support to serving and ex-serving personnel and the whole of the armed forces community, including dependants and carers. This support can include expert rehabilitation, financial or providing care homes that allow older veterans to live safely.
The Royal British Legion currently supports many people who are isolated from family, feeling lonely, facing homelessness, struggling to feed their children or in financial crisis. Many of which never imagined they would have to ask for charity support.
This year more than ever, Every Poppy Counts.
